– Em tính học master bên bang Ontario nhưng vì GPA của em thấp (~6,7) nên em tính học post graduate. Vậy em có cơ hội nào để apply master hay không hay bắt buộc học post graduare?
– Nếu em học xong post graduate thì lúc đó em có thể apply master không ạ? Và khi apply master lúc đó trường sẽ sét theo điều kiện nào ạ? Có cần lấy lại GPA lúc học Uni không ạ?

Mong các anh chị và mọi người giúp đỡ emvới ạ. Emđang kiếm trường bên Quebec hoăc trường nào có Postgraduate 2 năm chuyên nghành IT không ạ. Hiện emđã có bằng Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Software Engineering at Singapore và có khoảng 5 năm kinh nghiệm trong ngành, Điểm IELTS được 6.0, dự tính đi năm 2019. Em tra cứu mấy bữa nay chỉ thấy mỗi trường MC Gill có khóa Master of Information Studies thôi. Gặp Agency thì chỉ advise mỗi trường Douglas thôi. Mong các các anh chị và mọi người có biết thêm thông tin nào thì share giúp e với ạ. ( em thì đang cố gắng tự nộp hồ sơ để saving cost for future ạ) ??? em xin cám ơn nhiều ạ

Mình vừa có tin đậu Visa vào chiều hôm qua sau hơn 3 tuần chờ đợi. Mình muốn chia sẻ đến các bạn trường hợp của mình cũng như là study plan với hi vọng sẽ giúp ích được cho các bạn phần nào trong hành trình đến với Canada.
Về trường hợp của mình chắc là khá đặc biệt. Mình 28 tuổi, độc thân vui tính, tốt nghiệp đại học sư phạm Hoá, nhưng khi ra trường thì mình lại đi chơi nhạc chuyên nghiệp, dạy đàn và sản xuất âm nhạc. Mình cũng thành lập được trường nhạc, phòng thu và công ty của riêng mình.

Lần này mình dành ra 2 tháng viết study plan, kể rõ câu chuyện của bản thân mình và nêu rõ lí do đi học, lí do chọn ngành với sự giúp đỡ của một người bạn thân đã tốt nghiệp xuất sắc bên Anh về. Dear Sir/Madam,
My name is ….., a young aspiring musician and music entrepreneur from Ho Chi Minh City. I am writing this letter to express my interest in studying in Canada and to explain in details my study plan in your country with the hope that I will be granted permission to pursue my academic interest. I am planning to pursue a Postgraduate Certificate in Music Business at Humber College in 2017.
My music career did not start with “Music has been my passion since I was little”. I was neither born to an artistic family nor raised with music. Music came to me purely by chance when I was in high school. I could not have foreseen that I would have a strong connection to music until I first saw my friend’s guitar when I came to visit him at his house. Noticing my apparent interest, he taught me a few notes. Little did I know, those notes had awakened my passion for music. And little did he know, his guitar had become an important companion during my very first steps to professional music.
While pursuing a Chemistry degree at the Pedagogy University as my family’s wish, I found myself devoting more time to music. I taught myself music, joined many bands, and performed at different universities across Vietnam after lectures. In return for my passion and relentless efforts for music, I won many awards including the first prize at XXXX and XXXX national competitions.
Upon graduating university in 2012, I decided to follow my passion. I started teaching and playing music professionally.
From 2012 to 2015, I opened a guitar class myself. Additionally, I worked as a guitar teacher at Soul Academy, a musical institute established by Thanh Bui, who is a renowned musician and singer in Vietnam. While teaching, I also joined KOP Band, and later PAK Band which was led by Pham Anh Khoa, a well-established Vietnamese rock singer. We performed at various major musical events all over Vietnam, for instance RockStorm, Monsoon, Vietnam-Japanese festival, Countdown festivals, etc ; as well as on TV shows for prominent media corporations including ….v.v…
My music career expanded in 2014. After I was awarded a Pop Rock Certificate at the highest level with an outstanding result by Trinity College London, I started a recording studio to produce my own music. Many TV shows such as …v.v.. have purchased my works. I also produced music for many bands, namely as …….v.v. …. While fulfilling my personal development, I also supported my students in forming music bands, composing and producing songs at my studio.
Also in 2015, I was introduced a new market segment when my studio received an order from Vinagame Corporation to produce music for their new online game. This experience has opened up a whole new perspective for me which is very exciting and yet challenging. Realizing this business potential, my career path has a new development direction. After a considerable amount of time working professionally in the music industry, I no longer considered myself only as a music teacher or a musician, but a progressing young music entrepreneur.
At the same time, due to the increasing popularity of my guitar class, I scaled up my business into Innovative Generation of Musicians School (IGM School) to offer more programs. Later in 2016, I officially turned IGM School into Innovative Music company. The company not only offers musical training but also produces high quality music, discovers and trains musical talents professionally. Since then, I have cooperated with various universities in Ho Chi Minh City to search for musically gifted students and successfully helped them launch their career. Innovative Music is also trusted by major brands and TV networks in Vietnam to produce their music such as …….v.v……, etc. Thanks to Innovative Music, I was exposed more and more to the Vietnam’s music industry both in terms of its potentials and shortcomings.
Receiving many major orders and deals from big firms, my company has great potential to grow. However, the regular issues on copyright, music license, contracts, and other legal matters pose a significant obstacle for the company development. As an insider in the music industry, I have musical skills and knowledge, yet still lack understandings of business management, marketing, branding, public communication, and especially, international creative properties legislation for music. I have tried to solve these problems by hiring skilled and knowledgeable lawyers but the result remains unsatisfactory as they do not have an insight of the music industry. Additionally, Vietnam’s legislation for such things are still ambiguous and weak in enforcement, which allows room for violations. Acknowledging these problems, I decided to take the matters to my own hands by start studying them.
Unfortunately, after a comprehensive research, I found none of the musical schools in Vietnam provide relevant courses to my concerns while those taught in other universities are only about general business and commerce. Especially, there is no training class in working and advertising music products via social media such as Youtube, SoundCloud, Facebook, ReverbNation and the likes existing in Vietnam. I found that education related to music in my country is not sufficient to meet my needs and to help me with those concerns. Therefore, I have to seek for a better education elsewhere.
I have looked at various universities in the countries whose music industry is strong. Having carefully considered all of them, I decided Canada is the best destination due to its reputation in education quality, living condition, and welcoming environment. Furthermore, the concern over the current political climate in the US and UK also influenced my decision significantly. I prefer to study in a country where my cultural values and perspectives are respected, and that I can simply be myself with no pressure to dismiss my own and dissolve into certain prescribed ideas. Only then, I could freely and wholeheartedly contribute the purest Vietnamese culture through music to my future academic community.
Of all the courses I have looked at, the postgraduate course in Music Business at Humber College in Toronto perfectly meets my requirements and can provide needed skills for my career development. Various aspects related to business in music are covered in the course. Music Business & Finance and Music Sales and Marketing modules offer essential knowledge of business structures and operation mechanism of corporate and independent music companies in order to effectively run a business in the industry. I will learn the techniques to work with very particular clients in the industry, music marketing via social media, project finance, backend operations, and other processes. Most importantly, I will be taught to systematically analyze the music marketplace and trends which is unlike any other commodity market.
To deal with multinational companies in a professional manner, Contracts, Legal Issues and Ethics will give me strong knowledge about standard contracts, contractual requirements, the legal issues encountered in the music business and music cases. Besides, Copyright, Licensing & Sync module will give me a better understanding about laws regarding music, copyright, whenever my music can be used and shared as well as how to protect my music from plagiarism. And lastly, Artist Management and Development module will provide insight into successful strategies for management and development of artists, for instance, identify stages of development and opportunities for artists in different genres then create and execute strategies and campaigns to promote them.
Besides the above, the most appealing aspect of the course is the incorporated placement which gives me the opportunity to have hands-on experience working in a world-class music and learn from well-known artists. This is the only program in Humber College that condenses two semesters into one with an additional third semester of work placement. This will allow me to finish the course in the shortest time possible and return to my business in Vietnam. Furthermore, with the existence of many music organizations and recording labels in Toronto such as CIMA, CARAS, Music Canada, OMF, the Orange Lounge Recording Studio, Six Shooters Records, etc. I will have great opportunities to work with experts to provide me practical experience.
Music business in Vietnam is still at an infant stage and confined within the domestic market. It has the potential to expand to international stage, however, this opportunity has not been realized professionally by Vietnamese musicians. I hope, with the skills and experience acquired from the Canadian music industry, I can confidently lead my company in Vietnam to produce more quality products to meet the international customers’ demand; as well as know how to properly protect the copyright of my works. I have a firm belief that this opportunity will open a plethora of possibilities for myself and my company to collaborate with multinational entertainment companies in the future.
Coming to Canada to study, I will be exposed to new cultural perspectives and musical practices which will help diversifying my music style. However, to succeed in any music industry, an in-depth understanding of feelings, language, and culture of its audience is essential as music is the carrier of those elements. Since I have been living in Vietnam for my whole life, I deeply understand the feelings, culture, needs, and aspirations of Vietnamese people. As such, I will have a greater chance to influence and shape my country’s music. I am excited about the prospect of making an impact on Vietnamese music upon my return. And I have a firm belief that the love for my family, my motherland’s music, the determination to develop my career will motivate me to walk on this pioneering path.
And lastly, given my unconventional path to music, the Postgraduate Certificate in Music Business is the most advanced and time efficient course that I could pursue without holding a degree in music. I am very proud that I have successfully demonstrated my capability to Humber College which resulted in my acceptance offer. And I sincerely hope that I have clearly explained my proposed study plan and made myself worthy of this opportunity.
